Guide to the Perfect at Home Facial

written by NOA DIAMOND. February 9th, 2020.

While some of us might be able to make it over to our local dermatologist for a facial, others (like me) are stuck in a wintery tundra in St. Louis miles from my goddess of a facialist. Even if you have access, not everyone has the time or money to indulge.

But you know what? We aren’t gonna sit here and dream about what could be! Instead, I’m gonna cue you in on all the products I use to give myself a luxurious, relaxing facial. If you can find the time every one or two weeks to indulge in a little me time, I promise you’ll be feeling, and looking better.

If you know me, you know I can’t live without my plethora of what I have deemed the face washing headband. It’s so important for your face to have some time to breathe without all your hair and its many oils all up in there. So any good facial all starts with a headband IMO.

For your next step let’s go in with a double cleanse to make sure all that makeup, sunscreen, and sweat is off your face before we start layering on the product. I like these two but whatever you already have at home will work.

Obviously you can opt to skip this step, but if you’re looking to make your at home facial as close to a real one then this facial steamer will help you do the trick for sure. Plus, it’s only $30 from Amazon so if you order it now you might get it just in time before you get the energy to get out of bed and actually give yourself this facial.

Next step is my personal favorite, the mask. Now this step is fairly customizable because you can go in with whatever mask you already have laying around. Try and pick something that targets your biggest skin concerns. This mask is my favorite and I my facialist even uses it during my facials.

To be extra fancy I use these to apply the mask. This way I also make sure everything is staying clean and no product gets stuck under my finger nails which is literally the worst feeling and a waste of product.

After removing the mask with a warm washcloth, apply your favorite toner and moisturizer.

Finally, finish off with a facial oil and a relaxing gua sha. Please make sure to watch a video on how to use a gua sha before use!

Finally, it is important that I reiterate once again, don’t take this time to pick at your poor pores or pop those pimples! These products will help you achieve acne-free skin without the picking. If you insist on popping, please first use a facial steamer to open your pores, use a sterilized need to pop the pimples, and wrap a tissue and your fingers instead of letting your bacteria filled nails give you an infection!
