I never had terrible skin, but always seemed to get small, persistent breakouts no matter what I tried. I started to get into researching skincare to avoid spending money on products that did not help. What I learned about my skin is that it will get used to a product after about 8-12 months of using it and stop helping. Once I start breaking out after having clear skin for a while, I know it’s time to switch things up.
Morning:

One thing that does not change is I start and end every day with a cup of hot water with lemon. I give all credit to my queen Melissa Wood for getting me into this habit. Lemon water is so great for fighting toxins and keeping you looking nice and fresh. I just started adding a couple drops of the Sakara Detox Water Drops and the Beauty Water Drops into my morning cup because I have not been drinking enough water lately (terrible skin faux pas, I know). When my lips start getting chapped I know it’s from not drinking enough water. These drops might turn my water a greeny-black color, but they are helping to hydrate my skin and even boost collagen.
For my face I start by using the Renee Rouleau purifying face wash. It is gentle, non-drying, and leaves me feeling fresh. It’s a little pricier than my past face washes, so I probably won’t be repurchasing this one.

I then apply the “Buffet” from The Ordinary (you can find a review of Ordinary products in this post) to target signs of aging. I add a drop to my forehead and both cheeks, always making sure the dropper doesn’t touch my face. After rubbing it in, I take time to pat it into my skin before adding the next product: Hyaluronic Acid. This product is also from The Ordinary and works to add extra moisture to your skin. On the days I use this HA, I skip the Vitamin C. Those are two ingredients you do not want to mix. Otherwise I would use my Glossier Super Glow, which has Vitamin C and Magnesium.

I then apply my SkinMedica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer. I swear by this product! I have huge pores and this light moisturizer does not congest them. I also have dry skin and it still gives me all the moisture I need. My final step is a fairly new one for me (though I am ashamed to admit that to Erica and Rebecca): Sunscreen. I used to only wear sunscreen if I was going to be spending a long time outside. But recently, I have been using my EltaMD Clear Broad-Spectrum sunscreen on my face every morning. My house is filled with natural light, so even if I am not going outside UV rays are still getting in.
Night Time:
Having a different routine at night and in the morning gives you the chance to use different products that you can’t use in the same routine (like your Vitamin C and Acids). While I use the same face wash and moisturizer, the in-between changes.

After cleansing, I use my Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner to wipe away the day. Using a toner is a great option to add exfoliation into your routine. I then go in with the Ordinary Niacinamide (are you sensing a pattern?), which has done wonders for my pore problem and minor breakouts. After applying my moisturizer I use my Gua Sha to give my face some extra loving. Not only does this feel amazing, but it visibly reduces bloating. Don’t be afraid to push a little to break down the tension (but make sure to be super gentle under the eyes). I also like to wash my Gua Sha with a little soap and water after every use to get off any sticky products.

After my second cup of lemon water I am ready for bed. I have been using a silk pillowcase since December and am obsessed. It does wonders for both your hair and face so it’s a double whammy. You do have to hand wash silk pillowcases so if that is not something you are down for, don’t invest in one. It is super important to change your main pillowcase often because dirt and bacteria build up quickly. Having to hand wash this often can be a pain, but I love the pillow case so it is worth it for me.
